Narrating his ordeal, Jet Airways flight passenger Darshak Hathi told ANI that after they took off the air conditioner malfunctioned, then air pressure system malfunctioned too and oxygen masks came out and some of the passengers experienced nose bleeding and headache.

A statement by Jet Airways confirmed that all passengers landed safely, but that "first aid was administered to few guests who complained of ear pain, bleeding nose, etc". Doctors are now attending all the passengers on the Mumbai airport.

Television footage of video apparently taken by a passenger showed oxygen masks hanging from overhead compartments and passengers breathing through them. "According to initial information, of the 166 passengers on board, 30 have been affected by nose and ear bleeding and some are complaining of headache", said the DGCA official.

In January, two Jet Airways pilots were grounded for getting into a brawl and storming out of the cockpit briefly during a New Year's Day flight from London to Mumbai.

Another traveller said the pilot did not make any announcement other than the flight would turn back to Mumbai. "We were all surprised when the oxygen masks got deployed". Due to an imbalance in the temperature inside the flight, passengers started feeling dizzy and sick.

Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu has also directed officials to prepare a comprehensive safety audit plan involving assessment of safety parameters of all scheduled airlines, aerodromes, flying training schools and MROs with immediate effect.
