Rob Gronkowski threatened to retire after almost being traded to Lions

Adding Gronkowski to the Lions would have only served to make winning the NFC North a more daunting task in 2018.

The Patriots tight end reportedly threatened retirement upon the Lions and Patriots almost completing a blockbuster trade for him last spring, sources told ESPN.

Matt Patricia had one of the best coaching gigs in the National Football League, serving as defensive coordination under Bill Belichick on the staff of the New England Patriots.

"When Gronkowski discovered he could be traded to Detroit that week, he threatened to retire rather than go to the Lions, according to sources".
