Bill Cosby will spend the first few days of his prison sentence at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility outside Philadelphia.

Bill Cosby, convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Canadian Andrea Constand in 2004, has been sentenced to three to 10 years in prison.

Camille Cosby, Bill Cosby's wife, said in a statement that she had retained a former prosecutor to facilitate her efforts to "uncover the truth" regarding what she says is a feud between O'Neill and Castor.

Cosby showed no visible reaction to the sentence, which was close to the maximum that could be imposed. "The courageous survivors who spoke out and the diligent prosecutors made his trial and conviction possible", Ossorio says.

It's a reckoning that accusers and prosecutors say has been decades in the making.

NOVEMBER: Cosby's defense team was dealt a setback after judge denied two motions while they were fighting the charges.

The proceedings took place as women and others across the U.S. protested against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who faces allegations of sexual misconduct by two women.

That first trial ended up with a mis-trial, but a second trial, in April, saw him convicted of three counts of aggravated sexual assault.

Cosby was also fined $34,445.

Following the conviction, Carnegie Mellon University announced that it was revoking an honorary degree it awarded to Cosby back in May of 2007. He could end up in a long-term medical care unit.

The hearing is set to conclude Tuesday after testimony from a defence psychologist who believes Cosby is no longer a danger, given his age, and should not be branded a "sexually violent predator".

"All I'm asking for is justice as the court sees fit", Constand told the court on Monday.

Cosby's lawyers called Foley to the stand as they fought to keep him from being declared a "sexually violent predator", which would make him subject to mandatory lifetime counseling and community notification.

"This judge. has actually given a rather lenient sentence", Napolitano said. "He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself and others", Constand's statement said.

Cosby, who rose to fame as a stand-up comedian and then one-half of the I Spy team, had always been known to the public as one of the good guys of the showbiz world. Cosby's defense attorney, on the other hand, asked for a sentence of house arrest, citing Cosby's age, and the fact that he is legally blind.

He quoted from Ms Constand's own statement to the court, in which she said Cosby took her "beautiful, young spirit and crushed it".

Several of Cosby's victims arrived to court for the sentencing, including supermodel Janice Dickinson.

Cosby spokesman Andrew Wyatt said the former TV star planned to remain silent when given the opportunity to address the court.

"I'm a middle-aged woman who's been stuck in a holding pattern for most of her adult life, unable to heal fully or to move forward".
