Earlier this month, Ford, a professor at Palo Alto University in California, had alleged that Kavanaugh had assaulted her during a party in the 1980s when they were both in high school.

Key to Kavanaugh's defense was that he had never drank beer to the point of memory loss, but he strongly defended his beer drinking and the habit generally.

While he admitted in his congressional testimony that there were probably occasions during his time at Georgetown Prep that he had consumed "too many beers", a combative Kavanaugh denied he had ever gotten out of control or acted inappropriately toward women.

In the exchange, Klobuchar asked the Supreme Court nominee if he ever had so much to drink he blacked out.

"So drinking is one thing, but the concern is about truthfulness", Klobuchar said.

In his introductory remarks before the committee, Kavanaugh said that everything he said on the network could be entered as testimony.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has repeatedly said that he was legally allowed to consume beer as a prep school senior in Maryland. Sometimes others did. I like beer.

The Minnesota lawmaker went on to say, "I appreciate that he apologized, but at the same time, he didn't really answer the question".

"There is a bright line between drinking beer, which I gladly do, and which I fully embrace, and sexually assaulting someone, which is a violent crime".

Kavanaugh: You're asking about blackout. "But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out, and I never sexually assaulted anyone", Kavanaugh said. Kavanaugh asked Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse after tacitly admitting to having vomited from too much beer drinking.
