The New Orleans Saints are set to host the Washington Redskins at home on ESPN's Monday Night Football.

With a raucous crowd of 73,028 fans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome cheering him on, Brees broke Peyton Manning's all-time passing mark with a 62-yard touchdown strike to rookie receiver Tre'Quan Smith. After Brees completed a short pass to Ingram that eventually put the Saints on the 2-yard line, Ingram record the team's first touchdown a play later to give New Orleans an early lead.

Brees tossed 363 yards in the 43-19 win over the Redskins as he took his career yards total to 72,103 yards.

"Also, let this serve as the congratulations for the touchdown record because as you can see, I'm very busy", Manning added. Gruden also said running back Adrian Peterson has a shoulder strain and will have an MRI.

The person on the receiving end of the most passes from Brees is Marques Colston, who played his college ball at Hofstra, which no longer has a football program.

"All your hard work and dedication have paid off", Manning said while holding up a photo of himself and Brees standing side-by-side in 2000, when Brees was still at Purdue and Manning was a third-year pro.

Ballon d'Or 2018: Bale, Benzema and Agüero among first five
The first five Ballon d'Or nominees have been named and a number of Premier League players feature prominently on the list. Real Madrid's Luke Modric is in the running to be named the Ballon d'Or victor for 2018 after winning the FIFA Best award.

Brees is in his 18th season out of Purdue.

Brees told reporters this week he "never would have dreamed" of setting the all-time passing mark when he first entered the league with the San Diego Chargers in 2001.

Paired with an offensive mastermind in head coach Sean Payton, Brees produced an NFL-record five 5,000-yard passing seasons. And in doing so, deliver one more moment for the city he's called home since 2006. Brees surpassed Hall-of-Famer Johnny Unitas' streak of 47 straight - which had stood since 1960.

Brees now sits at 499 career touchdowns, one away from the illustrious 500 mark that he'll surely surpass in weeks to come.

The game featured other touches meant to honor Brees.
