West's visit to the White House falls in line with Kushner's efforts at criminal justice reform.

West has urged the black community to open their hearts to Trump instead of criticizing the president as a racist.

According to people familiar with the matter who spoke to the Times, West plans to talk with Kushner about increasing job opportunities for formerly incarcerated people.

West's meeting follows that of his wife, Kim Kardashian West, in May, which resulted in the release of 63-year-old Alice Marie Johnson, who was sentenced to life in prison in 1996 for a first-time non-violent drug offense.

The visit is the latest development in a budding relationship between Trump and West, who met at Trump Tower in NY during the 2016 presidential transition and have exchanged flattering tweets over the past year.
