'We're going to find out what happened, ' Trump pledged Friday when questioned by reporters.

Saudi insists Khashoggi, who entered the consulate for paperwork for his marriage to his Turkish fiancee, left the building safely but has yet to offer visual evidence of this.

Turkish authorities say a team of Saudis killed Khashoggi, and U.S. intelligence intercepts show Saudi officials discussing an operation to lure Khashoggi - a Saudi citizen who had been living in the United States - back to Saudi Arabia from his home in Virginia and detain him. In addition to the United States dollars 110 billion arms deal, Trump said the Saudis are going to invest $450 billion in the U.S. through their companies. But the careful wording appeared to leave open the possibility that Khashoggi died or was killed during an attempt to detain him, as some have speculated. The State Department released no details of the conversation.

One Turkish official told the New York Times that Khashoggi had been killed by a team of Saudi agents within hours of arriving at the Saudi consulate and an autopsy expert helped dismember his body.

"We are making sure Canadians' expectations and laws are always being followed", he said. There was no official confirmation of the report.

If confirmed, the recording would represent the strongest evidence that Turkish authorities have to show that Mr Khashoggi was murdered inside the consulate.

She said investigators were examining his cellphones, which he had left with her.
