"Well, I don't know", Trump said when asked whether the Pentagon chief would be leaving in an interview on CBS's "60 Minutes".

"Well, I don't want to give you an example - remember nobody's been able to do what I do", Trump said, factually inaccurate.

President Donald Trump has alleged China, in addition to Russian Federation, meddled in the 2016 us presidential elections. "At some point, everybody leaves. People leave. That's Washington".

Also last month, Mattis again dismissed reports that he was considering resigning as bad rumors.

"I have people now on standby that will be phenomenal", Trump said. It is well known that the Trump administration has experienced an unprecedented turnover rate as compared to past administrations. "How many times have we been through this now, just since I've been here?"

"I had lunch with him two days ago".

"I'm changing things around". In a statement after the book's publication, Mattis said that "the contemptuous words about the president attributed to me in Woodward's book were never uttered by me or in my presence".

Stahl: What are your options? "Well, it depends on what the sanction is", he said. Cengiz, who was waiting outside the consulate, says she did not see him re-emerge.

"I think something's happening". And I say, 'Will you please loosen up?' I've learned on the job.

"They can do what they - I will tell you this", Trump said. She asked the president if Mattis was going to leave.

Speculation that Trump may fire Mattis has been mounting for months.

"Well, no, even the way you asked me a question, like, about [family] separation [of illegal immigrants at the border]".

Stahl brought up Trump's now infamous speech at a political rally in MS in which he mimicked Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who testified before the Senate judiciary committee that Brett Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when they were both teenagers. "I never knew how dishonest".

The president denied that Mattis had been required to explain to him that North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and other alliances existed to "prevent World War III", a claim made in veteran journalist Bob Woodward's recently published book about the Trump White House. When Stahl followed up with tales of rising sea levels and melting polar caps, Trump argued, "You don't know whether or not that would have happened with or without man". "I want them to negotiate a fair deal with us".

While Trump did not act in an openly hostile way toward Stahl, as he has to other journalists, he rarely let Stahl get out a full question, before jumping in to begin his answer or contradict her, meaning the transcript makes for fairly choppy reading.
