Sloane Stephens has qualified for the 2018 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore from October 21-28, 2018.

"Finishing the season as the world number one past year was a huge honour for me", Halep said in a WTA news release.

"I came here to make sure that I am able to play, because my back is not great yet", she said.

Halep in the updated world rankings broke away from her nearest competitor Caroline Wozniacki on 960 points. She has been at the top of the rankings for almost the entire year even though her results suffered as the season wore on.

With momentum on her side, Garcia broke Pliskova's serve twice to claim her first WTA title since her back-to-back triumphs in Wuhan and Beijing a year ago.

"I feel great. I feel very happy that I am on top two years in a row", Halep told a news conference at Moscow's Kremlin Cup, a joint ATP and WTA event.

"It's really hard and I feel it every year, and I feel it more and more, to be honest".
