President Donald Trump has threatened to call in the military to seal off the US" southern border with Mexico, unless the Mexico takes action to halt a "caravan' of migrants making its way to the USA from Central America.

President Trump continued by saying ceasing the flow of drug and criminals into the U.S.is more important than global trade.

The Mexican ambassador to the US made the claim that they had reason to believe the migrant caravan from Honduras heading to the USA border was politically motivated.

Mr Trump's threat came as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo prepared to travel later in the day to Panama and then Mexico City, where he was to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pea Nieto on Friday.

He instead deployed the National Guard to the border.

The latest focus is on more than 2,000 Hondurans who left last Saturday from the city of San Pedro Sula.

Trump, who ran in 2016 promising to tighten United States immigration laws end the inflow of people entering the country illegally, has called for cutting off foreign aid to Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador if they do not stop the migrants.

The remark came during Thursday's broadcast of The Five, where Kennedy, known primarily for her self-titled program on the network, sat as a panelist for a discussion on immigrants during which she argued the government hasn't implemented sufficient border control. After they take office, they have agreed to work together with the U.S.to attempt to make the plan endure long-term.

"I think it's a good move for President Trump to have made the statements he's made - that our relationship is going to be affected in a bad way", the immigration expert expressed.

While Trump is threatening to eliminate aid, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been pushing efforts to improve US ties in Central America to reduce the flow of migrants.

And according to worldwide law, the U.S. can not deport asylum seekers without first determining the validity of their claim.

The group of Salvadoreans, Hondurans and Guatemalans say they are fleeing violence and poverty.

He said "many criminals" were coming into the U.S. from Central America.

In morning tweets, Trump repeated vows to halt USA aid to Central American countries that do not disband the caravan and issued a fresh threat to the Mexican government, which said Wednesday that it would treat those in the caravan no differently than it does other migrants.

Juan Escobar, 24, who was among the Honduran migrants in the caravan, said such rhetoric would not dissuade them from continuing the journey.

Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico's foreign minister-designate, downplayed Trump's comments as aimed at his domestic political base.

"The electoral process is very near, so he is making a political calculation", Ebrard said in an interview with Radio Centro.
