Cowboys Trade First-Round Pick To Raiders For Amari Cooper

For the second time in two months, the Oakland Raiders have shocked the National Football League world by trading a young player many figured to be a franchise cornerstone.

Cooper has two games with at least eight catches this year - 10 for 116 in Week 2 at Denver and 8 for 128 and a touchdown against Cleveland in Week 4 - and a total of four catches for 36 yards in the other four games.

This seems like a pretty good haul for the Raiders, who have now collected three first rounders this season via trade. The Cowboys are a game and a half back of Washington in the NFC East after losing in miserable fashion on Sunday in D.C., and if this trade doesn't turn things around for them offensively it could look really bad.

The Cowboys have gone with a committee-like approach at receiver this season since parting ways with former No. 1 option Dez Bryant in April. He only has 22 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown in six games this season. In their place, Dallas is led by Cole Beasley (350 passing yards) and tight end Geoff Swaim (205 yards).

Trading first-round picks for wide receivers hasn't worked out well for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys.

The next player who could be on the move is 2016 first-round pick, Karl Joseph.

The Cowboys made the playoffs once in two-plus seasons with Williams, in 2009, when they won the franchise's first postseason game since the last of five Super Bowl victories following the 1995 season. In 40 games, the former Texas Longhorns star caught 94 passes for 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns. Williams was drafted seventh overall by the Lions in 2004.
