WWE star Roman Reigns reveals he’s battling leukemia

Tonight's Monday Night Raw opened in shocking and sad fashion, as Roman Reigns revealed his battle with leukaemia.

Joe "Roman Reigns" Anoa'i is no longer WWE Universal Champion.

In a statement, WWE said Reigns had made his diagnosis public "in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease".

Roman Reigns came out this week in street clothes and had a huge announcement to make. "And because the leukaemia is back, I cannot fulfil my role, I can't be that fighting champion [I said I would be]", Anoa'i announced live to fans.

"I'm not looking for you to feel bad for me because I have faith".

He will surrender his WWE Universal Championship.

He walked up the entrance ramp and was met by his two fellow members of faction The Shield, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

He vowed to eventually return to the ring where he's been on the WWE's main roster since 2012. Let's all hope that this goes according to plan and we see him again sooner than later.

The Eskimos tweeted their support for their former player on Monday night after he announced he was stepping away from the ring. "The team who gave me a chance was the WWE".
