A global commitment to eradicate plastic waste and pollution at the source has been signed by over 290 organisations. The initiative is led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, in collaboration with the UN Environment, and will be officially unveiled at the Our Ocean Conference in Bali today. We can not recycle and clean our way out of this crisis ― we must move upstream to the source of the flow.

Ecostore's signatory of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's New Plastics Economy Global Commitment underlines the company's position as an industry leader in sustainability.

"Several members of the CGF are already advancing efforts that are consistent with the goals and objectives of the New Plastics Economy, including efforts to reduce problematic or unnecessary packaging and increase use of packaging that is recyclable or reusable". All businesses that have signed up to the Commitment will publish annual progress data. "In this way we can neutralize our environmental impact and, at the same time, do some good in communities that have excessive plastic pollution". I applaud the Indonesian government's pledge to provide $1 billion per year to reduce plastic pollution. The company will continue to expand its variety of concentrated refill options, enabling consumers to reuse packaging and reduce waste.SC Johnson has been relentlessly focused on designing unnecessary packaging out of its products.

All of the companies involved have promised that 100% of their plastic packaging will be reused, recycled or composted within seven years. This is just one step on what will be a challenging journey, but one which can lead to huge benefits for society, the economy, and the environment.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the amount of plastic in the sea could outweigh fish by 2050, with 8 million tons of plastic waste dumped into the oceans each year.
