While the perk lasts only for a "limited time", Amazon explains the promotion will affect orders that arrive in time for the Christmas holiday. Target announced last month it would offer free two-day shipping on all orders from November 1 to December 22.

As previously reported by FOX Business, Amazon competitor Walmart announced Tuesday it will expand its free two-day shipping options in November.

"We know many of our customers are starting to think about Christmas presents, parties and decorations at this time of year and we're excited to offer great deals when shoppers need them most" said Doug Gurr, Country Manager at Amazon UK.

US online retail sales in November and December will rise 14.8 percent, to $124 billion, software maker Adobe said last week in a forecast based on data from 80 of the 100 largest online retailers. Walmart, which offers free two-day shipping on orders over $35, told reporters after the Target announcement that it has no plans to change its shipping policy.
