A dead Nevada brothel owner and reality TV star won a seat in the state legislature on Tuesday less than a month after dying.

Democrat Lesia Romanov was left with no living Republican opposition in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District - but lost.

Hours earlier he had attended a rally for his campaign to win a seat in the Nevada state assembly in GOP-popular District 36.

"Under state law, the value of the votes from each county commission will be weighted to match the population distribution of each county within the assembly district as of the last US census", Clark County said.

On his campaign website, Hof had stated: "If you want higher taxes and the cradle-to-grave big government socialism, vote for my opponent". Officials have still not determined a cause of death, although foul play is not suspected.

Muth said Hof had apparently 'died quietly in his sleep'.

Hof joined the Republican Party after President Donald Trump was elected and mimicked the president's tone in his own campaign, the Los Angeles Times reported. He also starred in the HBO adult reality series Cathouse and wrote a book titled The Art of the Pimp, akin to Trump's book The Art of the Deal.

Jeff Sessions resigns as attorney general at Trump's request
He took credit for reversing a recent rise in violent crime and for taking a hardline stance on illegal immigration and gangs. Trump announced in a tweet that Sessions' chief of staff Matt Whitaker would become the new acting attorney-general.

He was, however, not destined to see his political victory after winning his party's primary election; as he was found dead at one of his legal brothels, Love Ranch, after his 72nd birthday party.

The brothel where his body was found is where National Basketball Association player Lamar Odom, who had a tumultuous relationship with reality television star Khloe Kardashian, was found unconscious in 2015.

Bonus link: ReasonTV interviewed Hof back in 2014 on prostitution, libertarianism, and more.

He said an anti-brothel push and regulatory problems he faced this year were political retribution.

Brothels operate legally in seven rural Nevada counties.

Under Nevada law, Hof's name wasn't scratched off the ballot, even though he died in mid-October, Huffington Post reports.
