Possible mass shooting at bar in Thousand Oaks, California

Ventura County Fire Department said on its website that firefighters and first responders were at the scene of a reported shooting in Ventura County in California.

Local authorities report at least 30 shots were fired at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks.

At least six people have been shot after a gunman opened fire in a crowded bar in southern California.

Witnesses who were at the bar are describing a scene of panic inside, and say people reportedly used chairs to break windows to escape.

Witnesses told The LA Times someone ran into the bar about 11.30pm, U.S. time, and started firing what appeared to be a black pistol. Kuredjian said he could not confirm whether any of those shot were dead or the severity of their injuries.

The Times reports that there were multiple reports of shots fired and people hit.

Dozens of police cars and emergency service vehicles were spotted at the scene in Thousand Oaks around 11.20pm local time on Wednesday.

People say he threw "smoke grenades all over the place".

A college country night was being held at the venue, which is popular for line dancing.
