Mysterious object spotted in solar system may have been an alien probe

Avi Loeb, chairman of Harvard's astronomy department and co-author of the paper, told NBC News: "It is impossible to guess the goal behind Oumuamua without more data".

Mysterious interstellar asteroid could be a solar sail from wrecked alien probe, astronomers say Interstellar mystery rock Oumuamua might have been part of an alien reconnaissance mission, according to two Harvard Smithsonian astronomers who saw in the unusual object signs it could be a light-driven probe.

Glenn Beck and Stu Burguiere discussed the plausibility of the report on Tuesday's radio program.

If Oumuamua is evidence of an alien civilization seeking out life beyond its home solar system, we may never know.

"I've been saying for years that the only thing that could happen that would make this more insane and I don't think anybody would blink, is if all of a sudden an alien spacecraft appeared above Earth", he added.

The technology, NBC news says, is still in its infancy on Earth, however.

"Like many researchers, I would very much like to believe that there is irrefutable proof of extraterrestrial life, but that is not the case", says Alan Fitzsimmons, astronomer at Queens University.

On its face, the study is trying to reconcile 'Oumuamua's pattern of acceleration, which matches that of a comet, to other observations that suggest it's not an active comet.

The president has verbally dismissed the Mueller probe, calling it a "witch-hunt" into his legitimacy in the White House. He did not mention that White House chief of staff John Kelly had called Sessions beforehand to ask for his resignation.

Dead brothel owner wins seat in Nevada election in US Midterms
Democrat Lesia Romanov was left with no living Republican opposition in the race for Nevada's 36th Assembly District - but lost. A dead Nevada brothel owner and reality TV star won a seat in the state legislature on Tuesday less than a month after dying.

They said alien civilisations may jettison used cargo ships, resulting in space debris that looks a lot like Asteroid 'Oumuamua.

"Why send a spacecraft which is doing this?" he said. "The sail is useless once away from a star so there would be no reason to leave it deployed".

The object shot past our Sun last October, being observed as something literally from out of this world (i.e. not from our solar system).

They proposed that it was powered along by "solar radiation pressure" produced by the sun, but went on to make more "exotic" suggestions to explain its acceleration. Even the spinning motion of a damaged solar sail would be far more strongly influenced by the radiation forces than seen, he explained. In their paper, the Harvard scientists say it may have been something called a "solar sail".

Loeb said he is not definitively claiming the object is alien, but said it is important to acknowledge the possibility.

Well, this week, the story of Oumuamua got a little bit weirder. "But until every other possibility has been exhausted a dozen times over, even the authors probably don't believe it". It is expected to shoot past Saturn and leave the solar system in early 2019, according to the agency.

"Aliens would only come into all of this if you accept their assumption (and that's what it is; it doesn't come from the data) that "Oumuamua is sail-like, and also assume nothing like that can be natural", Bailer-Jones wrote in an email".
