Trump Vows ‘War-Like Posture’ If Democrats Investigate Him

Internal Revenue Service law allows House and Senate tax-writing committees to request federal returns, and the ranking Ways and Means Democrat, Rep. Richard Neal of MA, has signaled publicly he would ask for them - a move the White House might fight.

"Democrats still have to answer this question that they still haven't answered after 2016, which is: what is the party going to look like going forward?"

Mr Trump also said that if Democrats began using their new majority to investigate him, he would direct Senate Republicans to launch investigations targeting Democrats.

Sanders, who like so many other rumored 2020 contenders traveled extensively ahead of the midterms with a handful of stops in states that figure to play a decisive role in the primaries, called the Democratic midterm victories "a rejection of not only a reactionary president, who has tried to throw millions of people off health care and give tax breaks to billionaires, but also a rejection of his racism and sexism and homophobia and xenophobia". The president responded: "Too bad, Mike".

"There's plenty of opportunity", Pelosi said, noting she worked productively with President George W. Bush during her last turn as speaker.

"We actually have a great relationship", Trump said of Pelosi. He is also planning to push House Democrats to move a bill increasing the federal minimum wage.

Trump said that he was considering changes to his administration in the aftermath of the election, including to his cabinet.

But Mr Trump could arguably benefit from open war with the House.

"I think Trump has a free hand to pursue his aggressive approach". Now that the exit polls are in, the picture is becoming more clear on why Democrats were able to win control of the House and how Republicans increased the majority in the Senate.

The House Ways and Means Committee is expected to subpoena Mr Trump's long-hidden tax returns amid suspicions the billionaire has paid minimal amounts for years and possibly expose hidden foreign ties.

Democrats also closed the GOP's 27-11 supermajority in the Senate, shrinking the gap to 22-16.

The Democrats were successful in rebuilding the "Blue Wall" with victories in the rust belt states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

"If the Democrats think they are going to waste Taxpayer Money investigating us at the House level, then we will likewise be forced to consider investigating them for all of the leaks of Classified Information, and much else, at the Senate level", the president said on Twitter. "Two can play that game!" he said.

In May 2018, however, Trump withdrew the United States from the agreement, making a return of sanctions all-but-inevitable. The sanctions are aimed to hit not just Iran's energy sector but also its financial, shipping, and shipbuilding sectors.

Thousands demand Mueller protection after Trump fires Sessions
The president has verbally dismissed the Mueller probe, calling it a "witch-hunt" into his legitimacy in the White House. He did not mention that White House chief of staff John Kelly had called Sessions beforehand to ask for his resignation.

Highlighting GOP wins in Georgia and Florida, Trump recounted his own involvement on the campaign trial and said "I think we've done an fantastic job...."

Trump reeled off a shopping list of disadvantages the Republicans had faced going into Tuesday's vote, including "wealthy donors and special interests", for the Democrats, and "very hostile media coverage, to put it mildly".

After the last votes are counted, Democrats will likely command more than two-thirds of the nation's suburban seats.

That the Democrats have not won an even larger share of seats in Congress is largely due to gerrymandering, which gives Republicans a built-in advantage in the House.

Nancy Pelosi, who's poised to become speaker of the house, has said that the House Democrat's main goal is to restore some of the power that's been slowly drained from the legislative branch.

Democrats have to keep reminding themselves, and America, that they beat Trump and the Republicans in the competition that mattered most.

Former United States president Barack Obama said "it was the most important election of our lifetimes", while President Donald Trump considered it a referendum on his administration. As this was the region that was seen as one which gave Trump the presidency, the deep rejection of the GOP there has to be seen as a risky development for the president.

The election was historic for different reasons.

Also among them are the first two Native American women elected to the House - Democrats Sharice Davids of Kansas and Deb Haaland of New Mexico - and the first two Muslim-American women, Rhasida Tlaib of MI and Minnesota's Ilhan Oman. "If, in fact, it requires a subpoena, I hope not, but so be it", she said.

When the Florida and Arizona Senate races are decided, Republicans will have from 52 to 54 seats. At the Hilton DoubleTree Resort, music blared from the hall and smiles were etched on faces. We have the Senate, the Supreme Court and the White House.

In the Senate, Democrats were facing an uphill battle because they were defending 26 races, while just nine Republican seats were up for grabs.

The result was broadly in line with what many analysts projected but makes for a confusing picture.

Democrats would dispute that on the basis of their gains in the House - a tally that is not final yet, but seems likely to fall near 35 seats. "She's a very capable person".
