It's been a whirlwind couple months for Anthony as of late.

Anthony, 34, signed a one-year veteran's minimum deal worth $2.4 million with Houston in August after being traded from the Thunder to the Hawks.

According to The Athletic, which cited league sources, the Rockets have engaged in talks with the star forward regarding his role with the team and "are seriously weighing his roster situation".

It's hardly been a fairy tale story during his time in Houston.

Anthony has struggled through his first 10 games as a Rocket, averaging 13.4 points per game on just over 40 per cent shooting. But now, it sounds like Anthony will be searching for a new team very shortly, per The New York Times' Marc Stein.

The Rockets, who reached the Western Conference finals last season, are off to a disappointing 4-7 start, with many outsiders blaming Anthony for the struggles. I don't know what's being said or whatnot, but Melo's been great, working hard every day. "I understand it he's obviously a Hall of Famer".

Despite general manager Daryl Morey decrying speculation on Anthony's future as "unfair", the Rockets could place Anthony on waivers as soon as Monday.

"One of the reasons I'm here, besides its 10 games in, about, is I think there's just a lot of unfair, like, rumors and everything going around about him", Morey said of the speculation surrounding Anthony. They are now 5-7 and are looking to recalibrate their team in an effort to rack up wins. As Coach [Mike D'Antoni] said yesterday, his approach has been great.
