Fitchburg State said the university's police department - which has the same warrant and arrest powers as a municipal department for any campus crime - is looking into the smash that FSU Falcons player Kewan Platt dealt to the head of Nate Tenaglia of Nichols College near the end of a game.

Obviously, Division III basketball doesn't have the benefit of video replay, so the flagrant contact wasn't reviewed during the game. "The player involved has been indefinitely suspended from the team and barred from campus, effective immediately", he said.

Nichols College spokesman Pete Divito sought to provide additional context to the altercation, telling ESPN that Tenaglia had guarded Platt throughout the game, leaving him frustrated. "Fitchburg State does not tolerate behavior that violates those standards", the school tweeted.

Friends say Tenaglia is taking the incident in stride.

Fitchburg State Director of Public Relations Matthew Bruun said in a statement that the university is disgusted by the display of violence and that Platt could face additional punishment. He put up 48 points and 25 rebounds in Fitchburg State's first two games of the season.

Tenaglia went down in pain, but according to the school's play-by-play, Platt was not called for a foul on the play. Nicholls College won the game 84-75, the paper reported.

Platt's name has been removed from the Fitchburg State basketball program's website.
