The two faced off after England's former captain came on as sub to earn his 120th global cap in a friendly against America at Wembley.

Rooney said: "It's my opinion that England are in very safe hands from what I've seen this week".

The match against United States of America, the country in which Rooney now plies his trade, gave England fans the opportunity to show their appreciation for their country's record goalscorer and most-capped male outfield player.

But Rooney stated: "It has been fun being around the players, it's been great seeing how they work and have improved".
