The latest faux pas for the social media network comes from one of its older acquisitions, Instagram.

As reported by The Information, the photo-sharing app had a security flaw which unknowingly led to the revelation of some users' passwords.

An Instagram spokesperson confirmed the security lapse to The Information, detailing that some users who used the feature to download a copy of their data had their password included in plaintext in the URL.

Facebook has been hit with another security bug which exposed passwords of Instagram users.

Instagram reiterated that the bug had only affected "a very small number of people", and once it had been internally discovered the bug was fixed to no longer display passwords. Facebook already notified users who were affected.

In addition to allowing up to 30 million user accounts to be hacked, there's the bombshell report that the company hired a PR firm to discredit activist protesters by tying them to the liberal financier George Soros. But as always, if you're concerned about a privacy or security issue with any of your online accounts - change your password.

"Temporarily, if someone submitted their login information to use the Instagram "Download Your Data" tool, they were able to see their password information in the URL of the page". However it is advised that all Instagram users change their passwords and also opt for two-factor authentication for stronger security.
