German tennis player Alexander Zverev triumphantly finishes this season. But at the same time I played finals of Bercy and here.

Zverev missed his first championship point before hitting a sensational backhand down the line for the victory, falling to the court in a mixture of disbelief and celebration as Djokovic jumped over the net to congratulate him.

"I mean, obviously it's not great to lose a tennis match, especially in the finals of a big tournament".

The German, the youngest finalist in nine years at just 21, showed huge confidence in a high-quality final as he dispatched the 14-time Grand Slam champion 6-4, 6-3.

Not only did he become the youngest victor of the title since Djokovic 10 years ago, and the first German to triumph since Boris Becker in 1995, Zverev also became only the fourth player to beat Federer and Djokovic back-to-back in the semi-final and final of the same tournament.

Another addition to his armoury has been Zverev's mental strength, according to Becker.

His mental resilience was impressive against Novak, as was his staying power. He served the set out crisply with three aces, taking his first serve percentage to 88 for the opener. We see it in other sports all the time, but in tennis it's rare. I think he was putting Sascha on the back foot, but you could see on the replay, it actually happened.

After a run to the French Open quarter-finals, he reached the Queen's final before winning his 13th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, having initially contemplated missing the grass court campaign.

Koeman insisted that he waited until the final minutes to use the tactic as he didn't want to concede more goals at 2-0 down. But they did not and we will still come back. "I got that note from Dwight Lodeweges and Kees van Wonderen", Koeman said.

The Serbian top seed, 31, came into the match seeking to equal Federer's record of six ATP Finals wins but was immediately aware he had a fight on his hands at London's O2 Arena. "It's the biggest title I've won in my career", said Zverev, who already has three Masters titles to his name. I appreciate you all coming out to support and show love for the sport.

Often it is a small margin and when you have someone on the sideline who has been there it has a big effect.

Zverev's dog Lovik has featured on his Instagram page on several occasions and has been known to travel to events with the tall right-hander - the pet was even granted an accreditation pass to the 2015 US Open as the player's "guest".

Despite losing against Zverev, Novak has shown over the past week - and few months - that he is back to his very best.

"I want to apologise to the crowd, Roger has a lot of fans here and for what he's achieved he should have".

I think the time he had off earlier in the year rejuvenated him and made him realise how lovely tennis is and how much he still has to give.

Can he dominate the men's game next year?

"He's playing incredible tennis".
