The firm is adding a politeness feature to the Google assistant which rewards users for being slightly more polite when making voice queries.

In all seriousness, various people and tech sites have raised legitimate questions about what our children are learning by the way gadgets increasingly encourage us to just bark a command and wait for it to be carried out. If you say "please", or "thank you", Assistant will respond favorably, with something like "Thanks for asking so nicely".

Google Assistant's new "pretty please" feature is created to encourage polite behavior, the company says. You can ask Assistant to read you a story, including holiday classics like Disney's "Mickey's Christmas Carol" and more.

As well as the Pretty Please function arriving, Google is also adding support for lyrics on your Lenovo, JBL or Google Home Hub Smart Display. "Alright, five minutes. Starting now". Finally, Google has added a two-way Nest talkback feature for Smart Display devices that let you speak with a visitor before letting them in. All of it makes Google's Assistant more useful and the rivalry with Amazon's Alexa that much more interesting.

You'll be able to call Santa, too, just by saying, "Hey Google, Call Santa".

Alternatively, if you have a Play Music subscription and an Assistant-powered smart display, you can see synchronized lyrics appear on-screen. The only downside is that it'll be harder to ignore them when someone knows you're home. If you don't feel like reading, Google can also do the work for you. Say "Hey, Google, add an Echo Dot to my gift list", to add an item, and "Hey, Google, what's on my gift list?" to pull the list up.

Sharing photos: Google Photos is another feature on Smart Displays that can show you past holiday memories with family and friends. The good news is that Google realizes this is a huge shortcoming, so support for Keep, Any.do, Bring!, and Todoist is coming...at some point. Starting today, that collection includes picks from Nickelodeon like Dora the Explorer, PAW Patrol, and Monster Machines. You just need to say "Hey Google, tell me a story about Christmas" or "Hey Google, tell me a winter story" to experience the new addition.
