Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer to announce retirement

Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes walks off the field alongside his wife Shelley after his team won 45-24 against the Oklahoma Sooners at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on September 17, 2016 in Norman, Oklahoma. He is an Ohio State guy. He returned to coach the Gators in 2010 before resigning at the end of the year.

When asked if his stint as head coach of the Buckeyes will be the last of his career, Meyer said the question was "complicated". He says the investigation of him also played a role in his decision. He answered: "I'm sure it will..."

Meyer is 82-9 at in seven seasons at Ohio State, with a 7-0 record against MI and three Big Ten titles.

Meyer would eventually admit publicly to having chronic debilitating headaches caused by an arachnoid cyst that he had surgery on back in 2014.

He says stepping away would have been more hard if the program wasn't healthy. He said the move needed to be made before the early signing period opens on December 19.

After seven years and a national championship at Ohio State, the 54-year-old Meyer will formally announce his departure today at a news conference. "I take this responsibility very seriously".

"The truth is you have a football coach who devoted 33 years of my life to student athletes", Meyer said. He is an Ohio State guy to the core. Meyer's last game with the Buckeyes will be their Rose Bowl showdown with Washington on January 1.

Pressed further, Meyer then said he is "fairly certain" he will not coach again.

"Brown added: "(Meyer) told me that he couldn't be animated at the level he needed to to energize the team and stay healthy".

Day, like Riley at OU, had completed two seasons as quarterback coach, though Day was not in charge of the Buckeye offense (Kevin Wilson is).

Brandon Browner sentenced to 8 years in prison
The 34-year-old was arrested back in July after he was accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and assaulting her. After one season in New England, Browner played one season with the New Orleans Saints in 2015.

Michelle Obama: Queen branded royal protocol rubbish

Central Intelligence Agency director to brief senators on Khashoggi killing
He referred to the reports that the Central Intelligence Agency has concluded with high confidence MBS was involved. Asked if he would be convicted of murder, the senator then answered: "Yes".

"I've learned so much from you on a daily basis and will forever be in debt to you", Day said to Meyer during the press conference.

The announcement Tuesday immediately led to more guesses about where Meyer could end up coaching next season or in the future. His teams are 186-32 overall for a.853 career winning percentage.

He has shown obvious effects of pain on the sideline this season. Meyer came under fire for his response - or lack thereof - in regards to allegations of domestic abuse against one of his assistant coaches. He took a hiatus from coaching, but he wasn't done.

That win signified everything about Meyer's seven-year run.

The Buckeyes' strong finish this season belied on-the-field problems that made for a stressful season for Meyer and his staff.

Day guided the team to three victories during Meyer's suspension. If Kelly gets the itch to pursue the National Football League in the next two years, Notre Dame's first call would be to Meyer to see if he would be interested and if his health would allow it. A startling blowout loss at unranked Purdue on October 20 pushed Ohio State to the fringe of the national championship chase and prompted questions about Meyer's future. "I support Urban in his desire to step aside as head coach". Asked if he would definitely return to Ohio State next year, he answered, "Yes".

Reports of Meyer's retirement were denied by Gene Smith on Friday, a day before the Buckeyes beat Northwestern for the Big Ten championship.

But the loss to Purdue weighed heavily and Ohio State finished No. 6 in the playoff rankings.

In a rather unnecessary move, one of the bonuses has Ohio State agreeing to pay Day $50,000 if he were to win the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award.

Just one year later, claiming improved health and better control of his personal affairs, Meyer reemerged at Ohio State when Jim Tressel was sacked by the Buckeyes. He heads into the game with an 82-9 record during his Ohio State tenure, including a flawless record over archrival MI. It appeared to be a dream job for the Toledo native and success quickly followed. Meyer has about $38 million left on his contract. He previously coached at Bowling Green and Utah.
