Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole was helped out of his wheelchair Tuesday afternoon to salute the American flag-draped casket of former President George H.W. Bush. Brad Hibbard was among those who brought Sully to the Bush's summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, last June, offering the president companionship and support during his time of grief.

Bush is the 12th U.S. president to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

Dole, 95, has had a number of health issues in recent years and struggled to stand up from his wheelchair to salute Bush, his one-time political rival. He was the Republican presidential nominee in 1996.

"Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died", the message read.

Bush will be honored with a funeral service at the Washington National Cathedral Wednesday before his body is flown back to Texas for burial.

President Donald Trump has designated today as a national day of mourning for former President George H.W. Bush, who died November 30.

Bush, father of the 43rd president, George W. Bush, will be buried on Thursday in Texas. He was a familiar presence in Washington: a congressman in the late 1960s, then Central Intelligence Agency director, envoy to China and Republican Party chairman.

Hapless Alberta takes action as oil prices crash
Alberta, as a hopelessly oil-dependent petrostate, is flailing about, looking for a solution to the pipeline bottleneck. Alberta's oil industry is producing roughly 190,000 bpd in excess of available takeaway capacity.

Mourners lined up to enter the Capitol beginning Monday evening for the public viewing.

Trump, the day before, spent 20 minutes visiting Bush family members, who were staying at Blair House, across the street from the White House.

The late Mr Bush called Mr Trump a "blowhard".

A sign reads, "President George H.W. Bush Thank You For A Lifetime Of Service", as it hangs from a building next to the rail lines where Union Pacific No. 4141 will be bearing the coffin of President George H.W. Bush on December 05, 2018 in Navasota, Texas.

"Here lies a great man", said Rep. Paul Ryan, the House speaker, and "a gentle soul".

Commuters should expect traffic in downtown DC before and after his funeral. His final resting place will be alongside Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years who died in April, and Robin Bush, the daughter they lost to leukemia in 1953 at age 3.

Bush's death also reduces membership in the ex-presidents' club to four: Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
