Jake Gyllenhaal joins Instagram, teases 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' role

Here's Gyllenhaal's post on Instagram (his very first!), where he realises he's not playing Spider-Man...

Prior to what is thought to be the first Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer dropping on Saturday, Jake Gyllenhaal officially joins Instagram and teases none other than Mysterio. Rumours were rife that he would don the role of a villain in the movie and now, Jake has confirmed that he will be bringing the comic book character of Mysterio to life in the movie.

In the clip Jake is reading a comic book title titled, The Return of the Man Called Mysterio after discovering something while reading he says: "Woah, what the f..." To seal the deal, the post includes the caption "I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man".

Editors at The Hollywood Reporter claimed in May that Gyllenhaal was in talks to play Mysterio, and in October, photos from the production in the Czech Republic surfaced online and showed him dressed in a suit and cape.

Jon Watts is returning as director, while Chris McKenna and John Francis Daley have penned the script. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are among the producers.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is a sequel to 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming and is due to be released in July 2019.
