Infielder Jean Segura has waived his no-trade clause and has officially been traded by the Mariners alongside right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio and left-handed pitcher James Pazos to the Phillies.

The Mariners' next trade after completing a very big seven-player swap with the New York Mets is another blockbuster with a National League East team.

This past season, Segura hit.304/.341/.415 along with 10 home runs and 61 RBI. "For the last four years running, he's been among the top 20 prospects in baseball". He immediately solidifies the Phillies infield with his solid defense and excellent bat.

The Mariners would likely receive J.P. Crawford in return.

Philadelphia will start Segura at shortstop for the foreseeable future. Of his 1,080 swings, 527 were put in play, giving him the ninth-best contact rate at 48.8 percent. The Long Beach native was selected by the Phillies 16th overall in the 2013 MLB Draft and has 72 games of experience in the Majors. Last season, he finished with a.214/.319/.393 slash line and hit three home runs in 138 plate appearances.

Shortstop was a place Phillies General Manager Matt Klentak was not happy with last season.

While the deal immediately improves Philadelphia's roster, what does it mean for the Phillies in relation to the Harper and Machado sweepstakes?

Segura is owed $60 million through the 2022 season.

After reportedly reaching a deal to acquire Jean Segura from the Seattle Mariners, the Phillies are reportedly still interested in signing at least one of the bigger free agents available. He was supposed to help lead a young Phillies group through the final stretch of the rebuild and into the postseason for the first time since 2011. Adding Segura to the picture still leaves the Phillies options if Machado chooses the City of Brotherly Love.
