Xiaomi's Foldable Smartphone Leaks with Triple-fold Design

Foldable phones look set to finally come to market in a meaningful way during 2019, so with that in mind it's likely that we'll start to see more and more leaks as time ticks on.

He also notes that the upcoming handset could be from Xiaomi since the clip indicates that the device is Chinese in origin and interface is similar to MIUI which we see on Xiaomi devices. Captioning the video Blass noted, "Can't speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it's allegedly made by Xiaomi, I'm told".

Shot in darkness, the video appears to show what at first is a tablet, but with that tablet later folding at two hinges, revealing something more akin to a phone.

The video shows a person using Google Maps on a tablet in landscape mode, which the user then folds back in two sections for it to transform into a palm-sized gadget with thin top and bottom bezels and curved edges.

But if Xiaomi is planning a foldable device, it would be the latest phone maker to tip its hat to the foldable category and one of the better examples of what a foldable device could be.

Given the icons on show it's believed that this is indeed a Xiaomi device, running a build of Android 9.

The other effect of a device like this is the additional thickness, something we don't get to see given the video is shot in the dark. When folded from two sides, it takes up the shape of a smartphone, and a tablet when unfolded.

When in an unfolded state, the screen upfront is quite large.
