While we may now know the number of devices sold with Alexa or Google Assistant, we do not know the number of active users.

The Google Assistant launched in 2016 on the Google Pixel phone and since then has spread to a ton of devices.

Google claims that it also became "smarter" thanks to advances in artificial intelligence that allows Google to create new voices in just a few weeks as well as increasing its ability for natural conversation. At the office, Google Assistant will play well with G Suite. All things being equal, that would make Google Assistant's install base 10 times larger than Alexa's.

No doubt, Amazon has taken over Google when it comes to the sales of smart speakers. Because Siri and Google Assistant come preinstalled on most mobile devices and only some would consider replacing them with either Alexa or Cortana, the global majority is still small. By the end of January, Google expects its voice assistant to be running on 1 billion devices, up from 400 million a year ago.

Alexa will focus on becoming more conversational and generally less awkward to use.

And Google has been quickly diversifying the amount of gadgets that are compatible with its assistant, even if it has yet to break out its non-smartphone numbers. Google also says that active users-both monthly and daily-have quadrupled over the previous year, though the company won't say how many people are using Google Assistant regularly.

Amazon has plans to keep expanding the number of Alexa-enabled products on the market.

Google has been working with virtually every company on the face of the earth, to get the Google Assistant onto their products. LG is also combining both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa smart controls into its 2019 range of ThinQ TVs.
