True freshman Trevor Lawrence got the nod at quarterback for the Tigers this season over Kelly Bryant, who had a poor game against Alabama a year ago and the former has had a stellar season throwing 2,933 yards, 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions leading up to the final.

Saban and the Tide will try to regroup in the offseason and more likely than not will find themselves right back in the College Football Playoffs and perhaps the National Championship Game.

Playing in his first year out of high school, Lawrence outplayed former Tigers quarterback Kelly Bryant, who despite winning an ACC title and taking them to a berth in the semi final last season, couldn't produce in the passing game when it mattered most. Heisman Trophy runner-up Tua Tagovailoa tossed a pair of interceptions a year after coming off the bench to guide the Crimson Tide to a national title over Georgia.

The true freshman completed 20 of his 32 passes for 347 yards, which included three touchdown passes with no interceptions.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban reacts after the NCAA college football playoff championship game against Clemson, Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, Calif. Clemson beat Alabama 44-16. Dabo Swinney certainly thinks so. The only problem for Alabama is the team that shellacked them Monday night likely will be there waiting for them.

Clemson rolled to a 44-16 win over the Crimson Tide and, to be honest, the Tigers could've put another score or maybe two on the board if they wanted to.
