Rami Malek Thanks Freddie Mercury in Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

The Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody caused a big upset when it took home not only Best Actor for Rami Malek but also for Best Picture.

"I had not seen that", Malek said, putting his face in his hands. "This is for and because of you".

The nominees were Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born, Willem Dafoe in At Eternity's Gate, Lucas Hedges in Boy Erased, Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody and John David Washington in BlaKkKlansmen.

Mahershala Ali, who played renowned pianist Don Shirley in the film, took home the Golden Globe for best supporting actor.

Rami also pointed out that "so many big names" came up to them all night, fanning out that they were in the house.

The classic track was performed by the Band of the Grenadier Guards on Monday - just hours after a Queen biopic won Best Picture at the Golden Globes. With The Favourite's Olivia Colman competing in the musical/comedy category, Lady Gaga was expected to have a relatively clear run for best actress in a drama. And Eddie Redmayne won both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award in 2015 for The Theory of Everything.

The actor got emotional when he accepted the award: "I am very touched". The Netflix show's star Michael Douglas won best actor in a TV series (musical or comedy) for playing an ageing acting coach.

One year ago at the 2018 Golden Globes, the words of the night were Time's Up. Watch his grateful and humbling acceptance speech here!
