Robert Becker - who oversaw Sanders' campaign in Iowa and, as deputy national field director, subsequently lead the senator's efforts in California, Michigan and NY - allegedly approached the 20-year-old female staffer later that night and grabbed her wrists before forcibly kissing her, the woman and three additional sources cited by Politico claim.

After the 2016 campaign, Weaver served as a spokesperson for the Sanders family during a federal bank fraud investigation into the actions of the senator's wife, Jane O'Meara Sanders, stemming from her tenure as president of Burlington College.

He thanked the women who did come forward with complaints of sexual misconduct and ensured that his 2018 Senate re-election campaign had "established some of the strongest sexual harassment policies in the country".

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders apologized Thursday following multiple allegations of harassment and mistreatment of women by staffers on his 2016 presidential campaign.

He continued, "To the women in that campaign who were harassed or mistreated I apologize".

Senator Harris has said she was "unaware" that a top aide paid a settlement of $400,000 (£314,000) in May 2017 to a woman who sued for sexual harassment.

"Candidates who allow people like Robert Becker to lead their organizations shouldn't earn the highest office in our government", she told Politico.

Later in the night, the 50-year-old Becker grabbed the woman by the wrists and held her head while kissing her, the report said.

R. Kelly's Ex-Manager Hit W/ Arrest Warrant
Parents of girls in R Kelly's camp accuse him of keeping them psychologically and sexually imprisoned. "But no one said nothing". The case was referred to a local prosecutor, and a judge issued a warrant for Mason's arrest in July previous year .

Politico reported Wednesday that a former Sanders adviser, Robert Becker, had forcibly kissed a female subordinate in mid-2016. This can't happen in 2020. Sanders is already putting together a campaign. The allegation, he wrote, is "at odds with my recollection of a late evening filled with many hugs and kisses and tears and conversations about what's next".

"To be clear: no one who committed sexual harassment in 2016 would be back if there were a 2020 campaign", added the statement.

The allegations have cast a shadow on Sanders' potential 2020 run in a likely crowded field of Democratic contenders.

"During the process of routine background checks being conducted, I would occasionally be asked to review potentially questionable or damaging social media posts of potential hires", Becker said in reply to that allegation. "You can't run for president of the United States unless you acknowledge that every campaign demands a safe work environment for every employee and volunteer", she added.

Initially, Sanders responded to the request with an apology "to any woman who felt that she was not treated appropriately".

The woman said she informed Sanders's 2016 campaign manager Jeff Weaver of the alleged assault.

"Clearly we need a cultural revolution in this country to change workplace attitudes and behavior". And Sanders has been lambasted for what many say was a tone deaf and inept response to the allegations.
