First Snow Of 2019 Coming This Weekend

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of south central Iowa, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

Snow showers will arrive across central IN by early Saturday morning.

Heavier snowfall is expected in central and eastern Missouri, where more than 6 inches of snow is possible.

The Weather Service says a winter storm system will develop in the southwest U.S. today and track across the southern plains on Friday. AccuWeather.com predicts 6 to 12 inches of snow in those areas.

Today rain could start anytime with a small potential of patchy freezing drizzle early in the morning but most of the precipitation type today will be rain.

The chance for snow will continue through noon Saturday and begin tapering off through the afternoon and evening hours, according to the weather service. A Winter Storm Watch is in place from late Friday night through early Sunday morning.

The winter weather is expected to make travel hard in the Kansas City area, with the greatest impact to travel Friday night through Saturday morning.

Impacts will be fine-tuned as this storm develops, but prepare to be dealing with an impactful winter storm from late Saturday night into Monday afternoon. Wind chills will be held to the teens and 20s all day.
