She also briefly hosted an evening newsmagazine that didn't catch on with viewers.

NBC has yet to make an official announcement on who will replace Kelly on Today's third hour, but meteorologist Dylan Dreyer teased the decision on Twitter earlier this month.

News announced its professional divorce agreement with Megyn Kelly late Friday, ending an association with the former Fox News Channel star whose attempt to become a network morning television star as part of the "Today" show floundered.

"The parties have resolved their differences, and Megyn Kelly is no longer an employee of NBC", the company said in a statement.

She is expected to receive the remaining money left on her contract, which is reportedly in the neighborhood of $30 million. Her daily morning show, "Megyn Kelly Today", suffered low ratings, and her assertive style at times seemed out of place in the anodyne environment of morning television.

Officially out: Megyn Kelly and NBC have officially parted ways. Her talk show was cancelled within days, and her lawyer began negotiating the terms of her exit. Her regret over the comment, however, was apparently not enough to sway NBC executives. "Like back when I was a kid it was okay if you were dressing up as a character".

There's no non-compete clause, meaning Kelly is free to seek other television work if she wants to. Kelly, 48, asked Jacob Soboroff, Melissa Rivers, and Jenna Bush Hager during a discussion about censoring Halloween costumes.

The negotiations are finally over: Megyn Kelly is out the door.

"And I don't know, I felt like who doesn't love Diana Ross?"

By that point, there were already questions about how much longer Kelly's 9 a.m. show would last.

Kelly gave a tearful apology on the show the next day.

The backlash to Kelly was swift and immediate, exceeding the outrage she generated for her remarks years ago about Santa's race.

Kelly has not been on air since her comments on blackface in October.
