Investigators believe the man accused of kidnapping Jayme Closs killed her parents to clear the way for him to abduct her, a sheriff said on Saturday.

"Right now at this point in time, I feel that it's very, very vital for her to build those relationships with her family because, unfortunately, her family was brutally torn apart", Smart said.

"There doesn't appear to be any connection between Mr Patterson and the Closs family at all", said Barron County Sherriff Christ Fitzgerald in a CNN interview. "And really that she rescued herself", Smart told "GMA" co-anchor Robin Roberts.

Jake Thomas Patterson, 21, of Gordon, Wisconsin, was arrested and charged with kidnapping Jayme and killing her parents, Denise and James Closs, officials said.

According to a Facebook page that was originally set up when Jayme disappeared but is now titled Healing for Jayme Closs says that if you would like to write any letters or well wishes to Jayme or her family, you can send it to Light the Way Home for Jayme Closs at PO box 539 in Rice Lake, WI 54868. "I think all of our prayers is what brought her home", said Geri Schoenecker, another church member.

"She told me who she was and then that's when I said this child needs to be someplace safe and you need to get her there now", Nutter said. Authorities are holding Patterson on suspicion of kidnapping and homicide.

Photos show the space beneath alleged abductor Patterson's tumbledown forest cabin in rural Gordon, Wisconsin, strewn with soft toys, filthy bedding and women's clothes. Authorities have said Patterson's goal the night he broke into the Closs' home was to kidnap Jayme, but it's unclear how Patterson became aware of her, especially since he lived an hour away. When the dispatcher called back, a voicemail greeting indicated the phone belonged to Denise Closs, 46. She approached a woman walking a dog and asked for her help.

Nutter told reporters she knew the young girl needed help and took her inside.
