DeSilva was arrested after he fraudulently used an ATM card belonging to the victim, Valerie Reyes, Berry said.

Greenwich officials said that authorities examined multiple crime scenes, conducted numerous interviews, analyzed social media posts, and watched hundreds of hours of surveillance footage in the investigation.

CBS New York reports that the suspect is originally from Venezuela but had remained in the US illegally since the expiration of his visa.

Valerie Reyes, 24, was stuffed in a suitcase which was abandoned last week. When Sanchez asked Reyes if someone had threatened her - and asked about her ex - Reyes said "no", Sanchez told WABC.

Said Sanchez: "We wonder, 'Who made her feel this way?'"

'She didn't mention anything or no one specific.

Police said tips have been pouring in with leads in her horrific and sudden slaying.

In their last conversation with each other, Sanchez said that Reyes told her she had feared for her life and that she thought someone was going to murder her. I'm paranoid, mommy. I'm getting anxiety attacks, She was having a hard time talking'.

'I'm anxious someone is going to murder me, ' Reyes then allegedly blurted out.

Reyes, 24, went missing on January 29 from her home in New Rochelle, a small town in NY.

Reyes was seen for the last time on January 29 and was found days later in a suitcase on the side of a Greenwich, Connecticut road. "The reality of their situation is utterly unimaginable, as is the crime with which Da Silva is charged", Sweeney said.

Da Silva - who, according to CBS 2-NY was living in the USA illegally after overstaying a visa - was held without bail at the brief appearance.

Da Silva was in a brief relationship with da Silva, who claimed his mother in Venezuela was dying of cancer. She recalled da Silva being "really pushy" and the type who "wouldn't take no for an answer".

"She was very scared, very frightened", Sanchez told the Rockland/Westchester Journal News.

The mother said the two young people dated over a period of eight months.

Among them was a man who identified himself as Valerie's boyfriend.

Greenwich Police Captain Robert Berry issued a statement last week relaying the community's "heartfelt condolences". "Was there someone at your house?' Reyes" mother said.
