The Argentine appeared to shout "f*** off" at United fans, moments after PSG took the lead at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Di Maria did his part to silence the boo-boys by providing the assist for Presnel Kimpembe's opener from a corner before laying one on a plate for Kylian Mbappe in PSG's 2-0 win in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie.

Unfazed, Di Maria picked up the missile and proceeded to pretend to drink out of the bottle, much to chagrin of United fans, but much to the sheer amusement of the Twitterati.

On the pitch, the Argentine was slow off the mark.

A beer bottle was thrown onto the pitch near Di Maria, but the stunt didn't seem to affect him.

"The slope at the side of the Old Trafford pitch made it look far worse than it was".

Di Maria, of course, made the most of it and held a seemingly injured arm as his team-mates surrounded Italian referee Daniele Orsato in a desperate attempt to force a second booking on Young.

During the game, Di Maria, who used to play for United, was noticeably booed by the home fans.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, PSG finally found a breakthrough when boo boy Di Maria fired a corner into the United box which was volleyed home by French worldwide Presnel Kimpembe on 53 minutes. But just as Van Gaal's new team fell apart in the against the Foxes, so too did Di Maria's United career. Di Maria was handed the famed No. 7 jersey at the club, but the pacey wide man never really managed to live up to the lofty expectations that were placed on him upon his arrival. Real Madrid were looking to sell, but no one other than United could afford to buy him and he therefore had little choice in the matter. He was a bit nervous and needed to be calmer in the first-half. Di Maria has since thrived in France and enjoyed the best individual season of his career in 2017/18.
