Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of MA, who recently announced that she is running for president in the 2020 election, suggested that US President Donald Trump might be in jail by then.

By the time we get to 2020, Donald Trump may not even be president.

This isn't the first time Trump mocked Warren about her claims of Native American ancestry in a tweet. "And what are we, as candidates, as activists, the press, going to do about it? We're going to chase after those every day?" Trump has repeatedly ridiculed Warren, often in personal terms and with racist slurs, for having in the past identified herself as having Native American ancestry.

There are also investigations underway into Trump's business and charity dealings, investigators working out whether he is unjustly profiting from his presidency, and whether he violated campaign finance laws.

Warren cited the ongoing investigations into Trump, saying: "It's no longer just the Mueller investigation, they're everywhere. In fact, he may not even be a free person", she added.

Warren, who officially announced her bid for the Democratic presidential nomination on Saturday, made the remark at the Veterans Memorial Building in Cedar Rapids in front of a crowd of several hundred.

"These are serious investigations", she told reporters.

Donald Trump Jr. later posted a screenshot of his father's tweet on Instagram along with a reply by another user that said, "The Native American genocide continues with another murder by the president".

Others accused Hollywood of hypocrisy, saying it was okay for them to tweet bad things about Trump, but it was off-limits to do the same about a Democrat. She's apologized for claiming Native American identity on multiple occasions early in her career.

"Should I be our nominee and Trump also be the nominee - I'm not sure if he will be - but if he is the nominee, you will see the toughest, strongest person standing against him", Booker said.

Voters in Cedar Rapids did not ask Warren about the controversy during a question-and-answer session, focusing instead on her stances on issues including tariffs and student loan debt.
