Actor Shine Tom Chacko appeared before the Kochi City police in Kerala around 10 a.m. on Saturday (April 19, 2025). He turned up at the Ernakulam Town North police station after the police summoned him to appear for questioning on an incident in which he allegedly fled from a hotel at Kaloor in Kochi city during a raid by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) late on Wednesday night. The actor declined to talk to the large posse of media that had gathered in front of the station.
Reportedly, the police have prepared a detailed questionnaire of 30-odd questions, including why he fled on seeing the police team. The police have also collected his call record data over the last month, it is learnt. Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner is also present at the station. The interrogation is under way.
Since the incident, Mr. Chacko has been incommunicado except for his social media posts. The police served the notice summoning him to appear for questioning at his residence in Kochi city.
CCTV footage
The police have also collected CCTV footage of Mr. Chacko fleeing the hotel at Kaloor in the heart of the city. Allegedly, he fled his room on the third floor through the window by jumping onto the asbestos sheet of the second floor. He allegedly escaped through the swimming pool area, took the stairs to the reception area, and fled riding pillion on a two-wheeler.
Reportedly, the DANSAF team arrived at the hotel on receiving a tip-off about a drug peddler. They came to know about Mr. Chacko’s presence in the hotel through the register and chose to knock at his door.
Incidentally, the actor was recently acquitted in a drug case by the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court, citing procedural lapses on the part of the police during the drug seizure and his arrest in 2015.
Though there was no response initially, another person opened the door. The police, however, failed to recover any narcotic substances from the room despite a detailed search.
Recently, actor Vincy Aloshious had filed formal complaints with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of a film she had worked in and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) reportedly naming Mr. Chacko. This came a few days after she had raised allegations of drug use and misbehaviour by a male co-star on a film set.
