Actor-turned-politician Ranjana Nachiyaar resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, citing opposition to the three-language policy. In her resignation letter, she stated that the imposition of multiple languages was a mistake.

Meanwhile, AIADMK MP M. Thambidurai accused the ruling DMK government of exploiting the language issue as a political tool ahead of the elections. Speaking to the media, he criticised the state’s stance on the New Education Policy (NEP), highlighting the contradiction in allowing CBSE schools — where multiple languages are taught — while opposing Hindi.
“The current state government permits numerous CBSE schools to operate. If Chief Minister Stalin is serious about the language issue, he should insist on withdrawing all CBSE schools from Tamil Nadu. These schools follow the National Education Policy and include multiple languages, including Hindi. Why can’t the ministers take a firm stand on having only two languages? The government has allowed CBSE schools, and with them comes Hindi and the NEP,” he said.
“DMK is playing politics with this issue. With elections approaching, the language debate is being used to manipulate public sentiment. Instead of focusing on governance, facilities, and welfare, the government is using this as a distraction,” he added.
On Monday, DMK cadres staged a protest near the Trichy Central Bus Stand in Tiruchirappalli against the Trilingual Language System in Tamil Nadu. Party members distributed pamphlets to raise awareness about their opposition to the policy.

The DMK has consistently voiced concerns about protecting the Tamil language and resisting any efforts to make Hindi more dominant, arguing that such moves undermine Tamil culture and identity. Earlier, DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan expressed serious concerns over the policy’s impact on education in Tamil Nadu, accusing the central government of using it to “impose religious ideas on the education system.”
