Netflix has dropped the first teaser and full cast list for Bullet Train Explosion, the latest action thriller from Shin Godzilla co-director Shinji Higuchi. The film, set aboard a high-speed train hurtling towards disaster, is slated to premiere on April 23.

Leading the ensemble is Tsuyoshi Kusanagi as conductor Takaichi, with Kanata Hosoda playing fellow conductor Fujii and Non portraying driver Matsumoto. The cast also features Machiko Ono as House of Representatives member Kagami, Jun Kaname as YouTuber Todoroki, and Hana Toyoshima as student Yuzuki Onodera. Takumi Saitoh rounds out the main cast as Kasagi, the commanding officer overseeing rescue efforts from the Shinkansen General Operation Control Center.
The newly released teaser sets up the film’s premise: a bomb has been planted on a Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa, rigged to detonate if the train’s speed drops below 100 km/h. With a staggering ransom demand of JPY 100 billion ($660 million), passengers, crew, and railway authorities must race against time to prevent catastrophe.
Bringing a fresh take on Toei’s classic The Bullet Train, the production worked closely with East Japan Railway Company, using real bullet trains and facilities to ensure authenticity. The screenplay is penned by Kazuhiro Nakagawa and Norichika Oba, with Episcope producing and Kota Ishizuka serving as producer.
Bullet Train Explosion joins Netflix’s growing lineup of Japanese live-action content in 2024, alongside Last Samurai Standing, Alice in Borderland Season 3, and 10Dance
