The first single from Thug Life, the much-awaited gangster action drama from ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam and veteran actor Kamal Haasan, is all set to be launched in a star-studded event in Chennai today (April 18).
With music scored by Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, Ratnam’s frequent collaborator, the first single titled ‘Jinguchaa’ has lyrics written by Haasan. Notably, Thug Life marks a reunion between Ratnam and Haasan after nearly four decades since the iconic Nayakan (1987).
Co-written by Ratnam and Haasan, Thug Life boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, and Nassar.

Filming of Thug Life kicked off in January 2024 and has spanned diverse locations such as Chennai, New Delhi, Pondicherry, and Kanchipuram, with international shoots in Serbia and other parts of Europe and action choreographed by Anbariv and cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran.
Originally referred to as Kamal Haasan 234, the film’s official title was revealed in November 2023. Ratnam, known for titling his works in regional languages, breaks tradition with an English title for the first time.

Production faced some delays due to Haasan’s political engagements and an on-set injury to Joju George, but principal photography wrapped by late 2024. The makers also dropped a teaser featuring Silambarasan in May of last year.
Produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies, Thug Life is set to be released in theatres worldwide on June 5.
