Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services have been affected with multiple reports of failure of transactions from across the country.
The National Payments Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the UPI operations, acknowledged the outage and said that it was working to resolve the issue, hours after several users flagged the issue.
“NPCI is currently facing intermittent technical issues, leading to partial UPI transaction declines. We are working to resolve the issue, and will keep you updated. We regret the inconvenience caused,” the NPCI said in a post on X.
Several users faced difficulty in paying even small amounts as the UPI transactions failed. Some users reported that they received the error message “Recipient’s bank network is down. You’re not able to make payment to your recipient’s bank. Please try paying to a different bank account.”
This is the third major outage of the payment service that has become the method of choice for small payments. UPI services were down last month as well.
